Recently I took a long look at my social life. My non-existent social life! Oh what a sad state of affairs! Man! But it was my doing. I'd come to realize that after a very long and unnecessarily drawn out breakup with my ex, I'd retreated far within the safety and comforts of home. For a few months I was done with trying to find a reason for my current season and definitely done trying to be nice and keeping up a post breakup "friendship"... I was just plain 'ol done and needed a break. Oh, it started out innocently enough. I would be extremely tired after work so I'd plop down in front of the boob tube and catch up on my favorite reality series and zone out for an hour of two. It really helped to keep my mind off of the situation and the jacked up turn of events. Let's just say I wasted a lot of time laying low. Real low...
I guess it wouldn't have been so bad if I was being super productive around the house, i.e. finishing the hundred million projects that I'd started, completing and sticking to my new budget, creating new pieces of art, or coming up with a real plan to complete my higher education goals. *sigh* I was suffering from the worst case of cabin fever and with the summer approaching I wasn't feeling any better about the whole situation. Thank God for good friends (old and new), a sense of humor, and impulsive family...
So it was a blessing in disguise when my younger two brothers asked if they could come and crash in my basement (turning it into a bachelor pad apartment) until they could get on their feet. After lots of conversation I decided to go along with this. Now while this arrangement has some interesting catches I did see it as a good opportunity to get back out there while showing them the ropes around and about Atlanta. Back into the wonderful world of socializing in this city! Yay! These brothers are very much the "let's get up and go" types. They've already been here a month. I've done more in this time than I'd done in six months. We've gone to a mid week music showcase, made a trip to our hometown, and a short trip to South Carolina. I'm pretty excited about what new things I can find to do locally. I expect this ride will be fun! Won't you join me? Let me know what you think.
